inside the mill

Our Mill

Our story is longer than just this present venture. Before it was a workshop…it was a brooder house.

Back in the 19XX, our family chicken farm and wood lot

in 20XX, we set to work on renovating our saw mill, which had been made in XXXX but hadn’t seen use or care in some time.

in 2024, we all found ourselves in a season of unemployment, and this break in the frantic pace of life allowed us to focus on building what had been in our hearts and minds for years.

then in 2025, the brooder house repairs and renovations began, and we saw a huge return for our labor. We transformed a cluttered and struggling space into a bright, purposeful workshop. Now we have the room to create and perfect our craft with a completely in-house operation from design to final product.

We believe in a local, circular economy that connects us with our neighbors and our land. Even the tools and machines we use are an eclectic blend of family pieces passed down and restored, and vintage tools from local woodworkers and enthusiasts.

Mass-produced décor and furniture is cheaper and quicker than ever while being completely devoid of character. We’re bringing the best back.

our land

The Kuusisto family acquired XXX acres of land back in XXXX, and we’re still here. Kuusisto means “spruce lot”; woodworking’s in our name!

Our standing woodlot contains a variety of local hard and soft woods, including ash, maple, oak, idk what else

The mill is our legacy for our community and our kids. Bringing our children into the shop and inviting them into the process of creation has been a gift for all of us.

A dense forest with tall pine trees, green shrubs on the ground, and a clear blue sky overhead.
A bearded man and a young child working together to assemble or repair a wooden chest or box. The man is holding a hammer, and the child appears to be holding a small tool nearby. The workshop has wooden walls and various hand tools inside the chest.

Andrew K.

Andrew has over 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer at Bose, with a career designing, prototyping, and launching cutting-edge technology. Of course he has tons more experience but doesn’t like talking about himself, like ever.

During my time in engineering, I developed a deep passion for craftsmanship and problem-solving, which led me to woodworking as a creative outlet. What started as a hobby has now grown into a side project where I blend my engineering expertise with the artistry of woodworking to create custom, high-quality furniture.

Some of my core interests and skills include:

  • Custom Furniture Design

  • Prototyping & Crafting

  • Problem Solving & Innovation

  • Combining Engineering with Artistry

Would you like to create a custom piece of furniture? I'd love to bring your ideas to life. Right after I share a more recent and higher quality picture of myself

We need a bio and recent pic for Bob!

Doug K.

Doug made the switch from expert level mechanic for BMW to carpentry creator and woodworker. He’s gonna have to write his own bio here (for the sake of accuracy) and I can add to it and give it * flair *

Tom K.

You too, Tom. Recent pic and bio are needed!
